Honolulu City Council member and Congressional Candidate Tulsi Gabbard today put out calling for an end to the war in Afghanistan. Watch the video here:
It’s an interesting position given that Gabbard served in Iraq as part of the National Guard, and has talked often about honoring those who serve their country. She might be positioning herself to get to the left of Mufi Hannemann in the Democratic primary.

4:35 p.m. The Holidays Are Coming

The City鈥檚 26th Annual Holiday Wreath Contest is right around the corner, and this year鈥檚 theme, Holoholo Holiday is sure to entice the imaginations of our island鈥檚 foremost artisans.
Organized by the Mayor鈥檚 Office of Culture and Arts, the top prize of $200 will be presented for the most ingenious wreath creation. There are three contest divisions: Adult, open to any individual or group, ages 18 and older; Children and Youth, for individuals or groups, ages 17 or younger; and Theme Catagory, for individuals or groups who best depict the theme, Holoholo Holiday.
A ribbon and monetary award will be given to the winners in each division. The first place prize is $150; second place is $100; and third place is $75. An overall 鈥淏est in Show鈥 will receive the Mayor鈥檚 Holly Award worth $200, while six 鈥淛udge鈥檚 Choice Awards鈥 will be presented monetary prizes of $25. Only one award will be presented to any one individual or group. Judging will be based on workmanship, creativity, and use of materials. Wreaths in the theme category will be judged on the entrant鈥檚 incorporation of the theme into the wreath.

Entries will be accepted on Monday, November 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Lane Gallery of Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street, first floor. No early or late entries will be accepted. Each entry must include a wreath contest entry form.

Where’s Carlisle?
At 6:30 p.m. tonight, Mayor Peter Carlisle will be a guest at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu reception to celebrate the National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The reception is at the Tapa Ballroom in the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
