The regulation of vacation rentals has once again fired up the community.

Citizens on both sides of the issue — some arguing for additional permitting, others arguing for tougher regulations — are packed into the Mission Memorial Auditorium for the Planning Commission meeting this afternoon.

Among those listening to a presentation by Department of Planning and Permitting Director David Tanoue were Honolulu City Council member Stanley Chang and various representatives of the Carlisle administration and other council members.

9:13 a.m. Beat the School Jam

With students back in class, there are going to be more cars on the road.

City and state transportation officials are set to hold a news conference to remind motorists that about 60,000 college and private school students are back in school starting this month and next.

It’s scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the City and County of Honolulu Traffic Management Center and will feature City Department of Transportion Services Director Wayne Yoshioka; State Transportation Department Deputy Director Jade Butay; Oahu Transit Services President Roger Morton; and Honolulu Police Department Chief Louis Kealoha.
