11:03 a.m. Ethics Agenda Out

The Honolulu Ethics Commission this morning distributed the agenda for its next meeting, scheduled for next Monday.

Among the executive session items are:

  • Report and recommendation regarding acceptance of travel gifts by the Council
  • Report and recommendation regarding a possible financial conflict of interest by a city officer
  • Report and recommendation regarding whether there is a conflict of interest between outside business interests and a city employee’s official city duties

10:47 a.m. EPA Fines Pest Control Co.

From a press release from the Environmental Protection Agency:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced a $17,000 fine against Kama鈥檃ina Termite & Pest Control, Inc. for misusing Vikane, a fumigant pesticide, at three houses and one luxury condominium, a violation of federal law.

9:16 a.m. Regulating B&Bs Not So Easy

Honolulu has had a history of difficulty with regulating transient vacation units, bed-and-breakfasts and other individually-owned short-term rentals. That history will continue Wednesday with a Planning Commission hearing on a bill.
