School bus fares are going up more than 60 percent for Hawaii students this fall, even as questions persist about how to rein in runaway costs.
The Hawaii State Board of Education voted Tuesday to for the second time in two years. In January 2010, the one-way fare more than doubled.
This year, the cost of a one-way ride to school will rise 67 percent to $1.25, up from $0.75. The Hawaii Department of Education will still honor passes that were already purchased for this year at the old price.
