Last month Civil Beat hosted a sweepstakes to celebrate our first birthday. We wanted to thank our readers for the generous support we鈥檝e received since we launched just over a year ago. So what better way to do that than by giving gifts to our readers?

Other than the generous prizes that our partners provided, Civil Beat also gave away the grand prize of an iPad 2. Also, anyone that entered in the sweepstakes received a free one-month subscription to Civil Beat. Reaction was so positive that we decided to extend it. (Let your friends know!) Anyone who registers for Civil Beat automatically gets all the benefits of a subscriber for 30 days. Enjoy!

We were happy to hear some of the responses we got from our readers. Here is our grand prize winner Jason Lee doing his best Vanna White impression in the newsroom. Not bad, huh?

Another reader, Alex Sumberg, decided to go with an Academy Awards victory speech after winning .

鈥淲ow! I won?聽You like me. You really, really like me.鈥

Kristina Shibata didn’t mind admitting that a small gift can go a long way.

“Wow that’s great! I love Civil Beat! I was a regular reader before this but now I am dedicated!”

Frances Oshiro was not only gracious to Civil Beat after winning a $100 gift card from , but also to our partner.

“I am so glad that Farmers Insurance is community-minded and supports endeavors like Civil Beat. You’re making a contribution to Hawaii in many important ways.”

Jim Hall, our winner of two tickets to , shared a photo from the event and his date, Maria.
