Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle got back from a two-week trip to Asia on Monday. Last month, he went to South Korea. Next, he may travel to Japan.
When Civil Beat has asked the mayor to talk about his travels, he has obliged, including granting a phone interview from Taiwan.
But it’s curious that there’s been no mention of Carlisle’s travels in his public schedule. No news conferences.
“The problem is that then you’re left with the impression that I’m abandoning my post here,” Carlisle told Civil Beat when asked why he chose not to brief reporters about his travels. “In fact, the work of the city continues no matter where I am because all you got to do is get on the phone with me.”
Carlisle may well be doing the city a great service by strengthening ties with Asia. But we wonder what else he’s working on that he’s waiting for us to ask about.
