Prevedouros Heads to Greece to Hurl Dairy Products
2:26 p.m.
Perennial mayoral candidate Panos Prevedouros sent a blast email about an upcoming trip he’s taking to his native Greece.
“We will join the 11 million striking Greeks throwing yoghurt at past and present politicians in hopes that this action eliminates the debt,” he wrote. “The way debt is growing locally, we may have to do the same in Hawaii. With coconuts!”
Prevedouros, a leader in the local rail opposition, then ended the email with what looked like a little poem:
“Keep an eye at the port.
If any rails come ashore.
Just sprinkle them with salt.”
Ethics Opinion on Garcia At Least Two Months Away
9:03 a.m.
Outgoing City Council Chairman Nestor Garcia wanted to make it clear to reporters at a press conference yesterday that his departure from council leadership was not a preemptive strike against forthcoming results of an ethics investigation into his part-time job with the Kapolei Chamber of Commerce.
“Far from it,” Garcia said. “I don’t know what’s going to happen (with the investigation).”
Garcia says that he recently asked Ethics Commission Executive Director Chuck Totto about the status of the investigation, and says he was told that it will be at least two months before any opinion is issued.
Civil Beat’s Michael Levine checked in with Totto, who confirmed that time frame.
“The additional 2 months is because our office has only 2 staff members (another attorney and myself) who can investigate the case,” Totto wrote in an email. “We’ve spent the last few weeks preparing to and moving our offices (95% done as of yesterday), we have a heavy complaint workload, and the Commission usually meets monthly.”
