A 14-year-old Pearl City High School student has been arrested for allegedly stealing from his father the gun that was later used in a shooting incident at Highlands Intermediate School that injured a student.
This is the third arrest in connection with the case. The Pearl City High student allegedly sold the 45-caliber semi-automatic pistol to a 16-year-old male who in turn sold it to the 14-year-old who has been charged with attempted murder in the May 23 shooting.
We reported earlier that Hawaii has double the national rate of school firearm incidents. We also reported that the state doesn’t require lost gun reports, which might have helped track down this weapon before it ended up on a school campus.
