A judge has sentenced a veteran Honolulu police officer to 30 days in prison after he struck a pedestrian while driving drunk.
Officer Boyd Kamikawa has been on desk duty since injuring a 63-year-old woman in April 2010. She was hit while crossing the street around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Aala and North Kukui streets.
Kamikawa plead no contest in February to charges that he negligently injured the pedestrian while driving under the influence of alcohol, and drove twice after his license had been revoked.
The woman he injured had asked that Kamikawa spend no time in jail. He was also sentenced to 300 hours of community service.
