Gov. Neil Abercrombie to improve security at five schools Wednesday.
The capital improvement projects range from replacing a gymnasium floor to constructing security barriers near a school playground.
School safety has been identified by the new Board of Education‘s chairman Don Horner as a top priority. This $1.1 million is in addition to $27 million the governor released last week for other capital improvements at schools.
- $155,000 for the replacement of the gymnasium floor at Radford High School to address safety concerns.
- $26,000 for the construction of a traffic barrier at Barbers Point Elementary School near the school鈥檚 playground.
- $170,000 for the design and construction of security screens and gates at Royal Elementary School.
- $96,000 for a new drainage system on the front lawn of Royal Elementary School to mitigate safety concerns due to ponding water.
- $150,000 to replace the perimeter fence at Pope Elementary School, which has rusted beyond repair.
- $497,000 for the design and construction of security screens and gates at Kalani High School.
