A prominent opponent of the Mormon Church-backed development in Koolau Loa says he was physically assaulted by a vocal supporter of the project — and that the fight started over Envision Laie.
Kent Fonoimoana of the filed a police report Monday alleging that member Junior Ah You put his hands around Fonoimoana’s neck and headbutted him, according to The Hawaii Independent.
The plan would reshape the quiet northeast corner of Oahu by creating a new town of some 875 homes in Malaekahana Valley and allowing the expansion of Brigham Young University-Hawaii from some 3,000 students to 5,000.
Fonoimoana told the website that Ah You had told him to stop bad-mouthing the development project and to take off his green “Keep the Country Country” shirt.
