Former Hawaii Health Director Nominee Resigns Med School Post
Things appear to be going from bad to worse for the man who was forced to rescind his nomination for state health director amid a fraud investigation. Neal Palafox was asked by Gov. Neil Abercrombie to give up the nomination in January — a major embarrassment for the new administration — and now he is stepping down from his leadership role at the University of Hawaii medical school.
In January, Civil Beat reported on the investigation into Palafox’s alleged involvement in medical reimbursement fraud.
Now he has left his post as lead administrative director and chairman of the Medicine Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the John. A. Burns School of Medicine, with no explanation.
