Some folks don’t like birthdays very much. But here at Civil Beat, we like celebrating birthdays. We tend to go “all out,” with decorations, surprises and some kind of treat when it’s the Big Day for one of our own. Don’t believe it? Take a peek at some of our recent birthday celebrations.

To us, birthdays represent progress. For Civil Beat, the online newspaper, May 4 is the Big Day, our 1st birthday.

Throughout the month of May we will be celebrating our birthday. It’s an opportunity for us to pause for a moment and reflect on the past year. A time to thank you for helping take Civil Beat from a mere concept to what it’s become, the largest news organization dedicated exclusively to public affairs journalism in Hawaii. And a time to share what’s next for Civil Beat.

Stay tuned — we have some fun things planned! Hint: Think surprises and treats.
