It’s tough to one-up Donald Trump on the birther issue, but Hawaii State Sen. Sam Slom has taken the issue to a whole different level: Paternity.
Slom, the lone Republican in the Hawaii Senate, says he doesn’t doubt President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. But he thinks Obama is trying to hide the true identity of his birth father and his father’s citizenship.
Slom told Aaron Klein of WABC 770 AM in New York City: “My particular point of view – and why I haven’t identified myself as a ‘birther,’ per se – is that [Obama] probably was born [in Hawaii] and that the real issue is not the birth certificate, but what’s on the birth certificate.”
“It could have to do with what his name is on the birth certificate, who is actually listed as his father, the citizenship of the father,” Slom said.
Earlier this month, Trump announced he had sent private investigators to Hawaii to unearth the truth about Obama’s birth records. But he’s about they’ve found here.
A New York Times/CBS News survey shows that 57 percent of the registered voters believed Obama was born in the United States compared to only a third of self-identified Republicans who believed that. Meanwhile, 45 percent of Republicans believed he was born elsewhere.
