Honolulu Council Chair Has A Conflict of Interest On Rail Project
Honolulu City Council Chair Nestor Garcia has failed to declare a $60,000 part-time job funded mostly by pro-rail developers and landowners, creating a conflict of interest, KITV .
Garcia said he would begin to officially declare the conflict of interest when voting on rail issues in the future.
Garcia, who represents Waikele and Waipahu, has been the executive director of the Kapolei Chamber of Commerce since 2009. Work includes taking chamber meeting minutes and coordinating volunteers. He makes $5,000 a month.
Garcia admits that progressing the rail project is a top priority for the Kapolei Chamber of Commerce.
He listed the work in his financial disclosures, but failed to publicly declare it in council meetings.
