With the official population data now in hand, the state of Hawaii can get down to the business of drawing its political boundaries for the next decade.
On Friday, Senate President Shan Tsutsui‘s office shared with his colleagues the list of appointees to the 2011 Reapportionment Commission.

The e-mail was provided to Civil Beat Monday by a Senate spokeswoman.
is a Maui attorney who was rumored to be part of the team interviewing potential Cabinet appointees for then-Gov.-elect Neil Abercrombie. He served as emcee of Abercrombie’s inauguration festivities in December. Matsumoto is a former director of the state’s Office of Planning.
Nonaka is executive director of the , and Chipchase served as chief of staff for then-U.S. Rep. Charles Djou‘s Washington, D.C. office.
The eight appointees will select a ninth member to serve as commission chair. The system, known as a “tie-breaker scheme,” is used by a number of other states as a way to limit the power of the majority party to redraw district boundaries.
