So much for fiscal prudence? Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle told reporters at his Wednesday budget briefing that the city is restricting travel to save money.
It doesn’t sound like the Honolulu City Council got the message. This week no less than five of nine council members will travel to Washington D.C. for the National Association of Counties’ Legislative Conference. Granted, the council doesn’t report to the mayor, but aren’t they all in the same boat?
At at time when the city is trying to save money, we wonder why more than half the City Council opted to go. We note that this is the third straight month that city officials — including the mayor — have taken trips to Washington D.C. on the taxpayers’ dime.
