Hawaii lawmakers held one of their marathon sessions yesterday, with the House Finance Committee holding back-to-back public hearings beginning at 9 a.m. and extending well past 2 a.m. the next morning.
Good for them. Maybe that’s a sign that they’re hard working.
But is it really the best thing for the rest of us?
If you’re a parent or a working person who cares about the legislative process, chances are you’re not going to stay up ’til 2 a.m., even if you wanted to.
We’ve already established that Hawaii lawmakers are bill crazy, introducing more bills per legislator than U.S. Congress members.
But who really benefits when lawmakers clog the process with so many bills that they have to stay up past 2 a.m. to hear them all?
