Developers at Turtle Bay Resort have scaled back their expansion plans. After being told last year they’d need a new Environmental Impact Statement to move forward with their plan for 3,500 new rooms and condo units, developers have come back to the community with a more modest proposal, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.

The new plan calls for 2,345 units and has drawn praise from some area residents who are encouraged by the resort owners’ willingness to negotiate. Some opponents say the expansion would still be unpalatable.
