Reporters are lucky to get an advance copy of city and state leaders’ public schedules. It’s one of the ways we incorporate their plans into our coverage.
But when we received Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle’s schedule for next week, there was a surprising omission. It says in bold letters “No public events” under March 2 — the day the mayor is due to submit his budget. His plans to discuss the budget aren’t listed on any day of the week.
Carlisle’s press secretary told a Civil Beat reporter the mayor will still present his budget that day. They just opted to leave it off the schedule.
We wonder what other public business they aren’t putting on the public schedule.
