It’s bad enough when a cop breaks the law. It’s even worse when that cop is still at work.
Honolulu Police Major1 Carlton S. Nishimura has been indicted by a federal grand jury for corruption and tampering with a witness. He’s accused of taking money from an illegal game room operator and then hindering the FBI’s investigation into it later.
It’s Police Chief Louis Kealoha’s call whether Nishimura ought to be put on administrative leave. He doesn’t have arresting authority or his gun, but Nishimura is still at work in the department’s legislative liason office. Guess what they do: Help the Legislature craft new laws.
