Feb. 15: Waste Management Daily Progress Report
In January 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency ordered a cleanup at Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill. Civil Beat requested documents generated for the EPA pursuant to that order, and will be publishing them, raw and unedited, as soon as we receive them.
On Feb. 15, Waste Management reported the stormwater diversion channel is complete, a major milestone in complying with the EPA order. But the work isn’t over. Crews had to begin to repair a portion of the Cell E6 liner that got wet. Waste Management reports it will take two or three days to complete. The landfill contractor also pumped 47,759 gallons of storm water from Cell E6 today. That contaminated water will be treated for disposal, Waste Management says.
