In January 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency ordered a cleanup at Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill. Civil Beat requested documents generated for the EPA pursuant to that order, and will be publishing them, raw and unedited, as soon as we receive them.

On Feb. 10, following a work plan submitted Feb. 1, landfill operators drilled deep into the ground to assess whether there is water below the landfill. Because none was found, piezometers — observation wells — were not installed.

Meanwhile, repair work continued on Cell E6, and the final concrete was poured for the diversion channel.
