It looks like two more Hawaii schools have joined the ranks of the condemned.
Yesterday, news leaked that superintendent Kathryn Matayosihi had recommended the Board of Education close Queen Liliuokalani Elementary School in Kaimuki this summer. The latest estimates show the department expects it would save more than $2 million by consolidating the three schools with others nearby.
The board will make the final decision about whether to close them. Its Committee on Administrative Services is expected to vote Tuesday, Feb. 15 on whether to refer the superintendent’s recommendations to the full board, but the committee’s meeting agenda has not yet been posted.
