Last week, Civil Beat published an article that incorrectly reported that the Hawaii Department of Education was hiring more than 100 people for jobs related to Race to the Top.

Today, we learned from department spokeswoman Sandy Goya that the correct number of jobs is actually closer to 10.

When Civil Beat published my original article, I relied on the department’s advice to browse the listings on my own. I based my reporting solely on the number of jobs I saw posted. What I missed was the fine print that indicates I should have used the search filter “strategic reform” to find the Race to the Top jobs. I should have checked my findings with the department.

Civil Beat remains committed to a high standard of accuracy, which is why we wanted to draw your attention to the error and set the record straight.
