Keeping the President of the United States safe isn’t cheap — even when he’s on an island. The Honolulu Police Department says it spent $228,000 in overtime to provide security for President Barack Obama while he was in Honolulu for about two weeks this past holiday season. That’s slightly less than the $248,000 HPD spent on OT during his last trip. The true cost of his visit is larger, as plenty of HPD officers worked the presidential detail on their regular shifts, too.
