Calling all Hawaii photographers! We’re looking for the most unique and creative interpretations of our theme, “Not Your Typical Hawaii Beach Scene.”

Our “Community Voices” section is expanding with multimedia submissions and we want to showcase Hawaii through the eyes of its people. Simply point, shoot and upload your photos to our for a chance to get published with recognition on our site.

No Flickr? No worries. Just send in your photo submission with your name and website (or email address) to dzelikman@civilbeat.com.

Can it be an old photo?

Sure! As long as the photo belongs to you, matches our theme and was shot in Hawaii.

What if my photo gets picked?

We’ll choose the top photos and publish them in a slide show to tell the story on our homepage. Any winning submissions will get photo credits in the article, so make sure we have your name and a way for people to contact you (website, e-mail, Twitter, etc.) if they like your work. A good place for this could be the caption.

Will there be other themes?

We’ll be testing a number of different contest themes in the next few weeks, so if you want to submit make sure to check our site regularly and follow us on and for updates.

What exactly are you looking for?

  • Unique photos that match the theme.
  • Photos owned by you. Please, no stealing.
  • High quality images.
  • Please make sure your submissions are appropriate for our site. No nudity, etc.
  • No text or watermarks on your photos.
  • No borders on your photos.
