In January 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency ordered a cleanup at Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill. Civil Beat requested documents generated for the EPA pursuant to that order, and will be publishing them, raw and unedited, in real time.

According to the Feb. 3 report, there is still no change to the assessment of Cell E6. Waste Management writes that an investigation of its liner will be completed by Saturday, Feb. 5. The landfill operator reports some construction progress on the stormwater diversion channel: “Concrete wall material was poured today, and the contractor continues to place the final wall forms and reinforcing steel rebar.”

Waste Management also reports:

  • Workers are still pumping surface water from an area south of Cell E6.
  • 12,500 gallons of a muddy, watery mixture were removed from that area, and placed into tanks to separate.
  • 55,800 gallons of stormwater was removed from the sedimentation basin to be treated for disposal.
