Safe deposit boxes are supposed to be the place you put things you never want to lose. So imagine the surprise of a Honolulu family that discovered American Savings Bank lost their safe deposit box — and yet didn’t tell them and continued to charge rent for it. The Chow family rented a box in 2003. In 2004 the bank moved the box to another branch. A lawsuit filed by the Chows this week claims the bank lost five boxes. Yet it didn’t tell the Chows what happened. They only discovered that their box was missing when they tried to visit it. The box is still missing, the family says.
