A school administrator who stole $13,000 from Lehua Elementary in Pearl City avoided jail or a fine at her sentencing Wednesday. Janel Echiberi’s crime will be wiped off her record if she stays out of trouble for the next five years. Prosecutors had wanted her to pay a fine equal to what she stole. Circuit Judge Richard Perkins refused the request. Echiberi has to serve 450 hours of community service after buying with money meant for the kids a king-sized bed, a high-def TV, a digital camera, tires for her vehicle, clothing, dog food, beer and wine, and prescription contact lenses. The mother of three has paid the money back.
