Nearly a quarter of the students who try to join the Army fail its entrance exam, according to a report by The Education Trust. Wyoming had the best results, with just 13 percent failing the best. Hawaii had the highest rate of failure, 38.3 percent. “Too many of our high school students are not graduating ready to begin college or a career – and many are not eligible to serve in our armed forces,” U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan told the Associated Press. “I am deeply troubled by the national security burden created by America’s underperforming education system.” The test is given to a pool that has already had candidates eliminated because they didn’t graduate from high school, are physically unfit or have a criminal record.
