Seven Honolulu police officers who are blamed for the dismissal of more than 200 DUI cases want the city to pay for their legal defense. The officers are accused of falsifying overtime reports. There’s a state law that requires officers to be represented and defended by their employer whenever an officer is prosecuted for a crime or sued for acts done while on duty as an officer. But the Corporation Counsel’s Office denied the officers’ request that their defense be paid.
