Congresswoman Mazie Hirono has spent more than $1 million on her campaign for re-election to Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District seat, according to the latest . Republican challenger John Willoughby has the last two for filing his reports.
Hirono had raised nearly $930,000 this election cycle and spent more than $1 million through Oct. 13, according to her latest expenditure report filed on Oct. 21. (She started the cycle with $326,000 in cash and has $282,405 remaining on hand.) She has since raised at least another $24,500 according to notices that the Federal Election Commission requires candidates to file within 48 hours of every contribution over $1,000 received after Oct. 13.
Willoughby had raised $5,471 in contributions this election cycle as of his , covering the period through Sept. 30. That report was filed late. He had also taken out $13,000 in loans for his campaign, and spent $14,334, which left him with $4,137 in cash at the beginning of October. He has not filed the report due Oct. 21.

Hirono won her 2008 re-election by 51 points, 70-19.
She told Civil Beat‘s Chad Blair earlier this year that she never takes anything for granted when it comes to elections.
