Hawaii labor groups haven’t been a major financial factor for candidates this election.

Seventeen labor unions have given a total of $274,917 to 64 candidates. About 40 percent of that total went to Democratic candidate for governor Neil Abercrombie and his running mate Brian Schatz. To put that figure in perspective, Abercrombie alone has raised $3.7 million and Schatz has raised $849,000.

The rest of the union money went to candidates running for everything from the Honolulu City Council and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to the state Senate and House of Representatives.

Labor unions, which tend to be pro-Democrat, have clout in Hawaii where members accounted for 24 percent of wage and salary workers in 2009, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

• Hawaii Government Employees Association Hawaii’s largest union with 43,000 members, gave a single donation: $6,000 to Abercrombie.

• IBEW Local 1260 gave a total of $6,200 in political contributions, including $5,000 to Abercrombie. Other contributions included $200 to Rep. Karl Rhoads and $500 to Rep. Roy Takumi, as well as $500 to House candidate Jason Bradshaw, .

• ILWU Hawaii PAC gave a total of $19,867, including $6,000 to Abercrombie.
