If the outcome of the governor’s race were based simply on who raises the most cash, the Democratic ticket would have a big advantage over Republicans.
Neil Abercrombie had a better than 2-to-1 margin over James “Duke” Aiona in the latest campaign finance report (between Sept. 19 and Oct. 18). Same goes for Brian Schatz over Lynn Finnegan.
Civil Beat takes a look at where all the kala is coming from.
As we have done since well before the primary election, Civil Beat breaks down donors and contributions to get a sense of where the Democrat and Republican candidates get their dough — especially in the final stretch, when many donors are suffering from donor fatigue.
According to Abercrombie’s , he’s getting money from unions but also employees of Bank of Hawaii, Pacific Shipyard International, R. M. Towill Corporation, law firm Labaton Sucharow and a lot of people who work for the state’s university and public school system.
As seen in Ainoa’s , it means lots cash from state employees, faith workers, retired people, donors who gave $100 or less and, oddly, a lot of dentists. (Abercrombie has dental support, too.)
According to Schatz’s , he’s particularly popular among attorneys. We mean you, Galiher DeRobertis Ono. And Leavitt Yamane and Soldner. And Cronin Fried Sekiya Kekina & Fairbanks.
Like Aiona, Finnegan’s suggests she is popular with state workers and prominent Republicans.
As before, we apologize if we left your name and/or organization off the list. Remember, there’s always the next reporting cycle!
