Mayor-elect Peter Carlisle has been busy. Really busy. Too busy to talk much to reporters in the two weeks since he was elected Sept. 18. So when Civil Beat got word that photos had been posted to Facebook on Tuesday featuring Carlisle singing karaoke, we had to see for ourselves.
The photo in question is captioned 鈥淪inging karaoke with Honolulu鈥檚 Mayor-elect Peter Carlisle at Krazy Karaoke.鈥 But there are no microphones 鈥斅爋r action shots of the mayor singing 鈥 just a photo of Carlisle with a woman throwing a shaka, possibly Carol Guira, who uploaded the photo to her online album. She handles marketing for L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, according to her Facebook profile.
As it turns out, even karaoke can be official business.
鈥淚t was on his schedule,鈥 said Carlisle鈥檚 executive assistant, Jim Fulton. 鈥淚t was a calendared event to thank campaign workers. It was a mahalo party from 5:30 to 8:30 at Hawaii Kai Krazy Karaoke.鈥
Still, the mayor may have had time for a song or two. Guira posted a comment beneath the photo: 鈥淪hhh…don鈥檛 tell anyone but the Mayor and I were mic hogs. You should of seen him he was dancing up a storm…he and Doug will make a good team for the city.鈥
One singing mayor 鈥 Mufi Hannemann 鈥 left office in July. The verdict’s still out on whether Honolulu is getting another one.
