Democratic incumbent Mazie Hirono stands uncontested in the primary election for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District seat. But just to be on the safe side, from July 1 to Aug. 29, according to federal election fundraising reports released Tuesday.
That’s nearly six times by Republican candidate Ramsay Wharton over the same time period, and more than 100 times the $939 raised by Republican challenger Antonio Gimbernat. A recent filing was not available for Republican candidate . However he told Civil Beat that he has raised about $16,700 total, which means he raised about $1,400 in the last two months. He said he has spent $14,700 spent for the entire election cycle.
Hirono has raised a total of $801,916 this election cycle and had $732,994 left on hand at the close of the filing period. Wharton had $6,850 in cash, and Gimbernat had no cash left over.

The majority of Wharton’s contributions — $15,306 — came from individuals. Sixty-five percent of Hirono’s contributions came from individuals. Her to date include several attorneys:
