Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered the state flag at state and county buildings throughout Hawaii to on Friday from sunrise to sunset. It’s in honor of former Hawaii Supreme Court Chief Justice and Lt. Governor William S. Richardson, who passed away last month at the age of 90. Public and private are planned for today and tomorrow.

Sen. Daniel K. Inouye was the subject of trivia kerfuffle on a recent National Public Radio program. Wednesday’s on Talk of the Nation. Host Neal Conan asked guests to name the last two U.S. senators born south of the Rio Grande — but forgot that Honolulu is south of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Keith Rollman, the city employee and volunteer for Mufi Hannemann, has explained his rationale for the short-lived Atomic Monkey website that harshly satirized Neil Abercrombie. The site “was my personal blog. It was not, as stated by Neil Abercrombie’s recent press release, a Mufi Hannemann . “Blogging is today’s choice for the expression of first amendment rights,” wrote Rollman.

It seems that the CBS revival of “Hawaii Five-O” uses a zero, and not the letter “o,” in the title. The concern is that Internet searches for the show will not help promote the TV program if the letter is used .

A lifelong Lahaina resident and “self-described surfer girl” named Elle Cochran is running for the Maui County Council seat occupied by Jo Anne Johnson, which includes Molokai and Lanai. Cochran, a political rookie, formed the 2007 Save Honolua Coalition to protect open space in West Maui .
