Members of Hawaii’s congressional delegation are in the public eye this week:

  • Rep. Mazie Hirono will file her nomination papers for re-election Thursday at 10 a.m. at the State Elections Office in Pearl City. First elected in 2006, in 2008 with 70 percent of the vote.

  • Sens. Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel Akaka will be at the State Capitol today beginning at 9:30 a.m. to hear how federal stimulus money is being used in the islands. is chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and the full committee is expected to be at the Capitol.

  • The first debate for Honolulu mayor will be held Friday beginning at 10:45 a.m. at the in Waipahu. Kirk Caldwell, Peter Carlisle, Donovan Dela Cruz, Panos Prevedouros and Rod Tam have confirmed their participation.

  • The 13,000-member United Public Workers AFSCME Local 646 union will announce their endorsement for governor at noon today at the group’s North School Street . It will be either Neil Abercrombie or Mufi Hannemann, both Democrats.
