It’s not always easy to ask questions of our state administrators, as we found in a recent encounter with David Shimabukuro, the state’s Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) administrator.
Though in my initial visit to Shimabukuro’s office I was denied an interview, Shimabukuro took my questions for review and said he would get back to me by the following Monday. On Monday, he said he would set up a time to meet by Thursday. And on Thursday afternoon, he told me that he, ERS assistant administrator Wesley Machida and ERS chief investment officer Rod June would sit down to talk to me on June 24.
The day is finally approaching: This Thursday afternoon, John Temple and I will go to interview the administrators of our state pension program. What’s more, we are happy to ask questions on behalf of our members.
You might want to get a start by reading our ERS topic page for context. You can also take a look at our discussion about the pensions with Rep. Karl Rhoads.
Then feel free to alert us to any questions you may have by commenting in our Hawaii State Pension Fund conversation. We’ll ask some of the best ones and return with the answers.
We’ll keep you posted.
In the meantime, feel free to discuss any thoughts, questions or insights at the Hawaii State Pension Fund conversation.
