Imagine if you were a child, watching our governor, legislators, board of education members, superintendent and teachers union leaders try to work out their disagreement over Furlough Fridays.

Then try to remember what your teachers told you about how to work out problems with other children who may not agree with you?

What grade would you give the state’s leaders?

Today, on Civil Beat we’re dedicating our coverage to Furlough Fridays. It’s time to bring our approach of civil conversation to the discussion of this troubling issue. We’ve invited the governor, board chairman, superintendent, key lawmakers and union leaders to join us here to talk about what’s happened. (Board of Education Chairman Garrett Toguchi initially agreed to participate, but then backed out for a number of reasons, saying he’d be happy to take questions. Sen. Norman Sakamoto, chairman of the Senate Education and Housing Committee, agreed to participate.)

We hope you’ll join us to show what’s possible when people act like adults.

On the site today you’ll find two new articles about Furlough Fridays:

Plus we have a number of pages on critical education topics.
